Dominique Jacques was a bruising, powerful lineman that enjoyed making the big block on offense and getting to the quarterback on defense. Dom played for legendary AHS coaches Joe McKenna and Chet Hanewich, and with their guidance along with the help of many other great assistance coaches Dom enjoyed tremendous success. During Jacques' junior and senior seasons on the gridiron he contributed on offense, defense, and special teams, and in retrospect acknowledges that he "owes Attleboro High football; it molded my life".
During Dom's junior year the Bombardiers struggled, but the highlight of the season came in Week 3 vs. Bishop Feehan at Hayward Field when Attleboro, "a three-touchdown underdog", came out with a completely new offense. Coach McKenna took his team's wishbone offense threw it out the window, and unveiled an I-formation pro-style passing attack. The Blue & White offensive line, with Dominique manning the right guard position, allowed QB Steve Pedersen the time to complete (16) passes for 185 yards en route to upsetting their cross-town rival, 15-6, as AHS took home the Attleboro Elks Trophy for the second consecutive season.
Jacques and his senior classmates came into their senior season with Hanewich as their new head coach and lots of experience. This was bad news for all Bombardier opponents as Attleboro finished the season 8-1-1. Jacques and his line-mates opened up many holes for Hall of Famer Daryl Cavava's running, and they provided outstanding pass protection for the two-headed quarterback tandem of Hall of Famer Greg Payette and Pedersen to throw for a combined 1,169 yards and (11) touchdown passes. In defeating perennial power New Bedford 22-21 at Tozier-Cassidy Field, AHS scored via the air to TE Dan O'Connell with no time left, then went for a 2-point conversation and the win instead of going for the tie. Coach Hanewich made the decision, and Dom and his teammates "had to execute, and they did", said Hanewich. In perhaps the most memorable Thanksgiving games of all time for the Bombadiers, Attleboro avoided an upset when Pedersen and Payette switched positions for the game winning drive. Jacques, along with standout Phil Paquin solidified the right side of the line as AHS drove down the field and scored the eventual winning touchdown when Pedersen connected with a streaking Payette on a post pattern covering 38 yards to give Attleboro a 7-3 win in front of "nearly 9,000" fans. Dom was awarded L.G. Balfour Defensive MVP for his outstanding play from his defensive tackle position with (2) sacks and numerous tackles. Jacques had an outstanding year along the defensive line, where he had (10) sacks on a defense that allowed just over 11pts per game.
Dominique, who later was a teacher in the North Attleboro school system for nine years, currently resides in Las Vegas where he continues to teach chemistry.
