Matt Howe as a young sophomore on Kevin Deschenes’ young 2005 Attleboro Blue Bombardier team, stood out as one of the young players that could be counted upon to help rebuild Attleboro back to respectability. Matt, in 2005, became a season-long starting offensive guard from Day 1 for a Bombardier offense blocking for future hall of famers Jono Graziosi and Nathan Kuffrey. Coming into his junior season, Matt was immediately inserted as a fixture not only on the offensive line, but also as a powerful force as a starting defensive end. Matt ended his junior season as the 4th leading tackler with 49 total tackles, first amongst all defensive linemen, where he frequently lined up on the strongside of the defense taking up double-teams by the tight end and offensive tackle. Not only did Matt have the grit and toughness to stand up against running attacks coming directly to his side, but he was also very adept at chasing running backs and quarterbacks from the backside on outside sweeps. Matt had a very influential hand in Attleboro improving their win total in 2006 by 3 wins. A bigger, stronger, and varsity experienced elected captain coming into the 2007 season looked to make his season his best one yet and to lead his Blue Bombardiers to a successful campaign. In the 2nd game of the season, Attleboro was chomping at the bit trying to get that first win against an always tough Stoughton team. Attleboro was led defensively by Howe from his defensive end position with ten tackles and 1 fumble recovery in a 27-7 victory over the Black Knights. The offensive line with Howe at the right guard position also steamrolled to a 260-yard rushing performance and putting up 4 rushing touchdowns. Building on that momentum, AHS then put up over 300 yards rushing in their next game against New Bedford in a dominating 38-13 victory over the Whalers. In another dominating victory over the Red Raiders of Barnstable, Howe had 11 tackles, a sack, and a forced fumble in 36-12 complete game on both sides of the ball victory. Not only was Howe all over the field on defense, but his running back teammates rushed for 334 yards rushing in another dominating performance from the offense. Matt would save his best game of his career for his final game as a Blue Bombardier vs the rival Red Rocketeers. Although North Attleboro was able to come out on top in the closely contested battle, it was not for the lack of effort and performance from the senior captain Howe. Matt had ten tackles and two quarterback sacks from his defensive end spot to take home the Balfour Defensive Most Valuable Player award for the game. Matt finished his Bombardier career with 110 total tackles and nine quarterback sacks. Matt also gained all-star honors from the Old Colony League and Sun Chronicle.
