Biography

Nick Mazurkiewicz.jpg

Nick Mazurkiewicz’s style of playing football could be described as one of intensity, aggression, and focus. “Maz” as his teammates and coaches referred to him as, was one of Attleboro’s four elected captains heading into the 2008 season. Starting as a linebacker since he was a sophomore for head coach Kevin Deschenes, Maz was ready to lead the Blue Bombardiers for his senior campaign. Coming off a junior season which saw him amass 57 tackles, 2 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, and 2 interceptions from his outside linebacker position in Big Blue’s 44-defense, Nick was one of the league’s top returning defenders. As a senior, he was asked to play offensive guard for the first time to go along with his linebacker duties after being a reserve fullback prior for AHS. As part of that offensive line, Nick was part of an offense that amassed 3000 yards rushing and scored 322 points in 11 games. In a big 55-0 AHS win over Taunton, Maz had 9 tackles and 2 forced fumbles. In another important league game versus an always powerful Bridgewater-Raynham team, he had 8 tackles and a game changing forced fumble on a bobbled snap for a go-ahead Attleboro touchdown in a 26-21 victory. Maz saved his best for last in a memorable Thanksgiving Day performance. Maz helped lead his Blue Bombardier teammates in securing a 12-10 victory over the Big Red giving Attleboro its first victory in the storied rivalry since 1994. Maz capped off his brilliant career proudly hoisting “Hilda”, and also winning the Balfour Most Valuable Defensive Player Award in the Turkey-Day Game. Nick finished his senior season with 49 tackles, 3 sacks, 4 forced fumbles, and 1 interception, and gained Old Colony League and Sun Chronicle All-Star award honors. Former head coach Kevin Deschenes fondly remembers him “as intense and dedicated to Attleboro Football as any player I have ever coached in my 28 years of coaching AHS football. He is the epitome of what Blue Pride is all about”. Maz went on to be a four- year starter as a middle linebacker at Mass Maritime Academy. The Attleboro Area Football Hall of Fame proudly welcomes Attleboro High School graduate Nick Mazurkiewicz.
