Chris Palermo, Class of 2005, was 5’-7”, 145 pounds of pure determination. Palermo joins his older brother Michael (AHS Class of ’04) in the Attleboro Area Football Hall of Fame. This was not good news for the opposing teams. Chris contributed first on defense a nd special teams for the Blue & White, and by his senior year Chris would be leading Attleboro in rushing, receiving and points scored.
As a sophomore, Palermo and his Bombardiers teammates were looking to hold onto a 13-7 lead with 2 minutes left on the road in Franklin. The Panthers had 1st and goal inside the 10 yard line looking poised to get into the end zone when Chris made a diving interc eption in the end zone to help secure Attleboro’s first victory of the 2002 season. Chris Palermo was Attleboro’s shut down corner; always c overing the oppo- nent’s best receiver. The fearless Palermo completed his Blue & White defensive career with (81) total tackles, (50) unassiste d along with (2) fumble recoveries and (5) interceptions.
As a senior, it was Chris’ time to shine offensively for the Blue & White, and Palermo was up to the task totaling 1,053 yards rushing (an average of more than 6 yards per carry). Chris also led the team in receptions and receiving yards while tallying 16 TD’s and one two-point PAT. In a 26-12 victory over Durfee Chris reached paydirt three times, Palermo duplicated that three-touchdown feat again against Bishop Feehan later in the season. Chris’ amazing senior year capped off the third consecutive year that a Palermo led the Attleboro Footba ll team in rush- ing and points. Chris’s best high school football memory is starting varsity as a sophomore along-side his brother, which was the first time the two had played on the same level. Ironically, at the 2011 Hall of Fame ceremony that same sentiment was offered by Mike du ring his own induction.
For his outstanding career Chris was honored with Sun Chronicle and league all star honors, and would later graduate from Bryant University
