If there ever was a kid to wear the Red and White who came to play the game of football it was Frank Strachan. Frank was a versatile player who performed effectively on both sides of the ball for the Red Rocketeers. Primarily a defensive player when he first cracked the starting lineup, Strachan later developed into a fine all purpose running back. He even filled in at quarterback when needed.
In 1982 Frank was a starting defensive back for North. As luck would have it, the hard hitting Strachan suffered a broken collar bone in the flfst game of the season against Bishop Feehan. His only other appearance that year was on Thanksgiving Day in a 13-7 win over Attleboro.
The best was yet to come for Strachan. He returned in 1983 to tri-captain the Rocketeers to an 8-2 season. The fact that his mates elected him a captain indicated the respect that they had for Frank. Showing no ill effects from the injury Frank continued his hard hitting style. As a defensive back he had 2 pass interceptions and 24 tackles. As the season progressed it became very apparent that the opposition was not going to throw the ball in Frank's direction.
Offensively Frank was an important part of North's attack. He carried the ball for 485 yards and 3 touchdowns. He completed several passes from his running back position, one for a touchdown. He also was a valuable pass receiver and punt returner.
Frank Strachan was recognized for his defensive skills by being selected to the Hockomock League All Star team as a defensive back. After graduation he attended Stonehill College where he played six seasons for Attleboro's current coach, Cliff Sherman.
