During the football seasons of 1978 and 1979 John Simms was a total performer for North Attleboro High School. He was one of the team's most effective ball carriers, pass receivers and kick returners. In 1979 as a defensive back he made 23 tackles and intercepted three passes. His last performance tor the Red Rocketeers is his most impressive. John filled in at quarterback for the injured Jack Johnson although he had never before played the position. Simms rushed for 129 yards, scored a touchdown, passed for another, intercepted a pass and won the L.G. Balfour Trophy as the game's M.V.P. For his efforts, John was also selected to the Hockomock League and the Sun Chronicle All-Star Teams.
