Phil Ouimet is the fourth member of the 1973 football team to be selected to the Attleboro Area Football Hall of Fame. Many Rocketeer fans rate the 8-1 '73 squad as the best to wear the Red and White. There is no doubt that they were the team that put North on the road to success for the next twenty plus years.
In his junior year Phil was a standout defensive end on a North eleven that managed only two victories. Against Attleboro, in a 13-7 loss a newspaper article called Ouimet's first half performance immense. An ankle injury prevented Phil from returning to action in the second half. In that same season a Sun-Chronicle sports writer wrote that if be had to choose a most valuable Rocketeer performer it would have to be Phil Ouimet.
At the start of the 1972 season Phil was moved from defensive end to linebacker. At 5'9" 165 pounds Ouimet was the type of player who had a nose for the ball. In the season opener Phil intercepted a pass and returned it 23 yards for a touchdown, sparking North to a 32-0 win over Sharon. He was a consistent defensive performer the rest of the season. He anchored a defense that allowed just 38 points.
Phil Ouimet was recognized for his defensive abilities by being selected to the Sun-Chronicle and Hockomock League All Star teams for both the 1971 and 1972 seasons.
