Biography

For three seasons at Attleboro High School, Brian Hambley was a superb, hard-hitting offensive guard and an outstanding defensive tackle. A natural team leader on and off the field, co-captain Hambley inspired and led an inexperienced 1977 Bombardier squad to a fine 7-1-2 season. One of the first AHS players to dedicate himself to an off-season weight training program, Brian set the example for his teammates and all future Attleboro players.

A first team All Southeastern Mass Conference Div 1 selection at guard, Hambley was at his very best in the toughest situations. In 0-0 tie with Fairhaven, "Hambley crushed the Fairhaven rush all day to keep Attleboro in the game." And, in a brilliant 12-9 victory over New Bedford, Brian made a goal line stop in the 4th quarter to preserve the AHS win. Later against Franklin, Hambley fmished a superb defensive performance with another 4th and goal stop from the one yard line. Finally, in a hard fought 14-13 win over North Attleboro, Brian led an Attleboro line that blocked two punts, one field goal, and one PAT and insured the Bombardier victory.

Long time Attleboro line coach and Hall of Fame member, John McKenna once declared that Brian Hambley was one of the two best football players he ever coached. Attleboro fans who watched Brian Hambley play football would certainly agree with that assessment.
