Ethan Hamilton epitomizes the heart of a North Attleboro football player. The fullback/middle linebacker was undersized for both positions, but he made up for it with toughness, intensity, and a keen sense for the football. North's record during the Hamilton years was an impressive 32-2, including two Hockomock League Championships and two Super Bowl Championships, due in large part to Hamilton's ability to kick up the intensity when the games got bigger and the plays got bigger.
Offensively, Ethan's three-year total of 1761 yards on 274 carries ranks him among the top rushers in Big Red history. In classic Hamilton style, Ethan once broke three King Philip tackles on route to a long TD run during his senior season, and his 50 yard run on the inside trap late in the second quarter of North's Super Bowl win over Swampscott set up a critical Vandegiesen to Vandette touchdown pass just before the half. Defensively, the wily Hamilton amassed 182 solo tackles and 51 assists during his three seasons, and earned numerous helmet awards for exceptional defensive plays and big hits. Such gaudy statistics and his relentless style of play invite comparison to North's other fiery red head, fellow Hall of Famer Pat Bannon (NAHS '92).
For his efforts, Ethan earned a number of post-season awards. Locally, he was twice selected as the NAHS Defensive Player of the Year, and as a two-time Sun Chronicle and Hockomock League All Star. As a senior, Ethan earned the Balfour Trophy for his defensive efforts on Thanksgiving Day and the Raymond Beaupre Award for Loyalty, Toughness, and Discipline. He was also selected as the Hockomock League Defensive MVP. However, the crown jewels of his exceptional career were his selection as USA Today All-American Honorable Mention, Boston Globe Division 3 Player of the Year, and Boston Herald All Star. Hamilton was also named to the prestigious Massachusetts Coaches' Association Super 26 All-State Team.
