Biography

It is the rare sophomore who gets to start as a quarterback on a varsity football team, but Rob Lee was one of those rare individuals. In the fall of 1974, Coach Paul O'Boy was returning a strong group of juniors led by future Hall of Famers - Achin, Grundy, Lambert, Mc Deed and Merlin; however, he needed a versatile athlete to run challenging wishbone offense-enter sophomore sensation Lee. Lee guided the young Shamrocks to a commendable 6-4 season.

As a returning junior starter, Lee had mastered Coach Paul O'Boy's option football to a "T". Lee sparkled in a 19-0 shutout of Dighton Rehoboth when he rushed for over 100 yards in the first half alone. Consecutive victories over SE Mass rivals Bourne (19-0), Wareham (20-6) and Case (6-0) led the 5-1 Shamrocks to a pivotal showdown with cross-town rival Attleboro HS. In a driving wind and rain, Lee was outstanding as he tossed a TD to teammate Lambert to give Feehan a 7-6 lead then managed to connect with Lambert again with under 2 minutes left in the game to preserve a hard fought 14-6 Feehan victory. One of Lee's best games that year occurred against Seekonk. He blocked a punt and recovered it for one touchdown, ran for a second TD and scored a 2 PT conversion on a leading Feehan to 21-7 victory and a fine 7-3 campaign.

As one of two seniors returning on a lineup dotted with underclassmen, co captain Lee was a bright spot in a frustrating winless season. Lee scored Feehan's only points against North Attleboro, Seekonk, and Barnstable. Typical of Feehan's frustrations was a 14-0 loss to Case in which Lee had completions of 26, 27 and 30 yards only to have his team end the half and the game on the Case 1 yard line.

An excellent athlete, Lee also earned letters in basketball and baseball. He went on to prep school at Wilbraham Munson Academy and later played at Bridgewater State College.
