Biography

David Culhane used his strength, power and aggressiveness to become a two-year starter for the Bombardiers. During a difficult junior season for the Blue & White, Culhane was still recognized for his outstanding play on both sides of the line of scrimmage. The 6'2" Culhane was a ferocious and determined football player that seldom found himself on the sideline. David's skill & leadership enabled Coach Dale Caparaso to utilize his talents on special teams too. Defensively is where Culhane truly stood out. Whether playing defensive end or linebacker, Culhane, was a tremendous tackler and a forceful pass rusher. On offensive, David, often picked up large chunks of yardage on tight end screens or by stretching the opposing defense down the middle of the field.

The 1990 Attleboro High football season was filled with many David Culhane moments in route to a 7-3 record. Culhane was second in tackling on the stellar Bombardier defense with a total of Ill. He also led the team with 4 quarterback sacks. As mentioned, Culhane was instrumental on special teams as well. During a 396 victory over Somerset, Culhane, blocked two punts (four total kicks blocked on the season), one resulting in a touchdown for the Bombardiers. Caparaso exclaimed, "people can't block him one on one" referring to Culhane's deterrninion and zeal to get to the football. On offense, Culhane offset the explosive running of Hall of Famer, Shane Sackett and Jamie Emerson with 18 pass receptions for a 14-yard average. The vaunted Bombardier defense lead by Culhane allowed a measly 11.8 point per game in EAC action, while finishing second to Bishop Stang with a 4-1 record. Culhane was influential in a 41-16 victory over Dartmouth as the Blue & White out gained the Indians 375-123 in total yardage. Culhane crashed down on defensive tackles and knocked down linebackers when the Bombardiers were sweeping to his side of the gridiron. However, when Culhane was not man handling potential tacklers, he was creating havoc in the Dartmouth secondary as a big target for Hall of Fame quarterback Tyler Martin.

Culhane earned All EAC honors for his outstanding playas well as being an All Sun Chronicle selection during his senior season.
