Biography

As one of Attleboro High School's finest all-around athletes, Tyler Martin utilized all his great athletic skills as a three-year starter at quarterback while leading AHS in 1992 to an 8-3 season, an EAC Conference Championship and a Division 3A Super Bowl appearance. A classic field general, Martin was a skilled engineer who could perfectly execute the Attleboro game plan by flawlessly running the powerful option play and distributing the ball to one of his outstanding running backs or keeping it himself and gaining key yardage. And when needed, Tyler balanced the powerful Bombardier running attack with a brilliantly effective passing game. During his outstanding Super Bowl season, the versatile Martin proved to be one of the best quarterbacks in Eastern Mass when he completed 65 of 128 passes for 1001 yards and 16 touchdowns, rushed for 252 yards on 43 carries and 2 TD's. And, in his spare time, he harassed opponents as a hard-hitting defensive back.

As a mature and poised senior in 1992, the always-steady Martin used his two-year learning experience at quarterback to skillfully guide the Attleboro team to a brilliant Super Bowl season. As Attleboro rolled up 8 victories, Martin was a model of consistency on offense and defense. In a 50-27 win over Stang, Tyler completed 10 of 14 passes for 157 yards and three touchdowns; Martin followed that with a "near flawless" win over the always tough Dartmouth Indians when he was 11 for 18 for 178 yards and three more TD's; and in a brilliant late season 46-8 victory over Durfee, Tyler completed 7 of 10 passes for 118 yards, and three touchdowns and rushed for two TD's on runs of 53 and 43 yards.

Recognized by Coach Cliff Sherman "as a real consistent player who really matured a lot for us as a leader", Martin was selected as an All Sun Chronicle and All EAC Conference All Star for his outstanding performance in 1992. In addition, Tyler led Attleboro to a State Gymnastics Championship and later attended Eckerd College on a baseball scholarship.
