As an outstanding two year starter on offense and defense, halfback Daryl Cavaca was "a classic all purpose back who could do it all." The 5'8" 165lbs., speedy halfback could tum the comer and head upfield or power his way inside the tackles. An exciting open field runner, Cavaca electrified Bombardier fans with his punt and kick off returns, and devastated opponents who let him catch a screen pass in the open field.
In a brilliant 8-1-1 season in 1984, Co-Captain Cavaca led a talented Bombardier team in scoring with 8 touchdowns while gaining over 1200 all purpose yards rushing, receiving and kick returns. On a typical "Cavaca Day", in a big victory over Coyle, Daryl gained 133 yards, rushed for one touchdown, scored on a 24 yard pass reception, and intercepted two passes. Later, in a 14-14 tie with arch-rival Feehan, Dayle scored on a brilliant 44 yard run, gained 110 yards on 10 carries, and was a terror on defense.
Also an outstanding defensive back, Cavaca was a devastating tackler and an outstanding pass defender who consistently held the opponents passing game in check. As an All Sun District selection, Daryl was described "as a player whose talents far exceed his size and who has displayed great quickness and courage." Coach Chet Hanewich said it best when he stated that "he did so many things for us, but most of all he was a super, super team player."
