Biography

During Attleboro's brilliant 1968 and 1969 seasons, Dave Surgeons anchored an offensive and defensive line that completely dominated opponents and led the Bombardiers to consecutive Bristol County League Championships. While Hall of Fame backfield teammates Paul Silvia, Gary Livesy, and Ray Boudreau garnered all the headlines, the prototypical 6'2" 220 lb. tackle quietly went about the business of paving the way for two of the most explosive teams in AHS history. Big and strong enough to overpower his opponent, Surgens also had the finesse and footwork skills necessary to control his opponent while the offensive play was developing. He was a solid, steady, and dependable player who understood the game and his assignment. His offensive football philosophy was very simple-knock down as many opponents as possible on each play and then get ready for the next play. His defensive philosophy was just as simple-overpower or control your opponent and disrupt the play or make the tackle.

Dave was selected as a first team tackle in 1969 and 1970 on the All Sun district All Stars and a 1970 first team selection to the New Bedford Standard Times All Bristol County team which staled that "much of the credit for the victories during the past two seasons goes to Attleboro tackle Dave Surgens who did a tremendous job of blocking and clearing the way for the Attleboro backs while clogging up the opponent's offense from tackle spot."
